8vo. 43+(1)pp, incl. 27 text ilss & plans. Original printed paper wrappers, lightly spotted and partly split at head of spine, but well-preserved overall. Title slightly spotted. Contemporary ink presentation inscription, “Omaggio dell’A”, on upper cover.
Author’s presentation copy of an essay first published in the Enciclopedia delle Arti e Industrie by the then young architect and engineer Attilio Muggia, who would later become known for his Liberty-style buildings. He traces the history of theatre architecture through the centuries, then summarises what he considers to be the best of the modern theatres of western Europe, though oddly ignoring the most recent achievements such as Garnier’s Paris Opéra or the Viennese Hofopernhaus.
