Full Description

4to. xii + 420pp, mostly reproducing drawings from Buck’s sketchbook. Publisher’s cloth, in dustwrapper.

A sketchbook of drawings of Yorkshire country houses done by Samuel Buck in 1719-23 for the antiquary John Warburton, who contemplated writing a history of the county. They now provide the only direct visual evidence for many of the houses and prompt speculation about the identity of their architects : who, for example, designed Kippax Hall with its distinctive central chimney stacks of Charles II date?
