A good photographic record of the exhibition buildings, national pavilions and internal streetscapes. The intended grandeur of the principal buildings is rather taken away by the eclectic character of the other structures on the exhibition site, but the general effect is cheerful and a good time was clearly had by the exhibition’s visitors. What they made of the respective displays of sculpture in butter (sic) in the Canadian and Australian pavilions is any one’s guess. but the photo image of the figure in butter of the cricketer Jack Hobbs, with a caption above reading “Australia wins the test in butter”, probably wins the prize for kitsch.
