Anckarswärd, M.G.
Sveriges märkwärdigaste ruiner.
Stockholm, J.P.Gjöthström (1828-30).
Full Description
Folio. Litho title leaf, (13)ff, (32) litho plates, errata leaf. Quarter calf, contemporary marbled boards. Intermittent spotting towards outer margins, and a stain at the inner blank margin of a few early plates and text leaves, but the lithographic images themselves are in satisfactory condition throughout.
A scarce volume which provides evocative lithographic views of some of Sweden’s most romantic ruined fortresses, with accompanying descriptive text. It seems to have been issued in eight separate parts over the years 1828-30, each containing four lithographic plates ; one part is devoted to the still occupied castle at Kalmar, the others to picturesque ruins at such places as Borgholm, Bohus and Sigtuna. The attractiveness of the plates stems from the fact that M.G.Anckarswärd was a landscape painter as well as a lithographic draughtsman.
