Full Description

Oblong 4to. xi + (1) + 128pp, photo ills. Publisher’s cloth, in dustwrapper (the wrapper a little chipped at head and foot of spine, and more slightly at corners, otherwise in good clean condition). A good copy.

First English-language translation of Sitte’s classic text on city planning (first published in German as far back as 1889). An additional merit of it is that it includes new forewords by Eliel Saarinen and Ralph Walker, and a new supplementary chapter by Arthur Holden on the application of Sitte’s principles to modern urban design. It is also a pleasing example of American typographical design of the 1940s.
