The Church Builder
The Church Builder. A quarterly journal of the work of the Incorporated Church Building Society and of other works of church extension. New Series.
8vo. New Series, vols IX- XIX (for 1889-1899), lacking vol.XVI (1896) only. Various contemporary bindings (volumes for 1889-90 and for 1893-5 bound together in one volume each).
This now little-known periodical, founded in 1862, was published by the Incorporated Church Building Society as a descriptive record of its work in financing the building and restoration of Anglican churches and chapels in England and Wales. What makes it especially valuable for the study of church architecture is the presence in each quarterly issue of a list of newly built or restored churches with the date of their consecration, the name of the architect employed and a summary of the architectural work carried out.
