An edition of the surviving letters sent by Beckford to the London bookseller George Clarke in the years 1830-4. Clarke was the son and business successor of William Clarke, long Beckford’s trusted book trade supplier and agent, and these letters provide a fascinating record of Beckford’s book collecting activities in the period between the elder Clarke’s death in August 1830 and the failure of the younger Clarke’s business in the autumn of 1834.
