A very substantial contribution to an understanding of urban growth in England and Wales since the end of the 1939-45 war and to the workings of the town planning system. It was produced by a team of researchers with the think-tank Political and Economic Planning, headed by Peter Hall (1932-2014), subsequently successor to Gerald Smart as Professor of Planning at University College, London, and one of the most influential thinkers and writers of his generation on urban planning.
