The dictionary of English furniture from the middle ages to the late Georgian period. By Percy Macquoid and Ralph Edwards. Revised and enlarged by Ralph Edwards.
London, Country Life 1954.
Folio. 3 vols. viii + 350pp ; viii + 384pp ; viii + 376pp. Each vol. has a colour frontispiece, colour plates and hundreds of photo ills. Publisher’s cloth, in dustwrappers. This set belonged to the late Alan Thomas, the well-known antiquarian bookseller.
The best edition of what has remained the most complete and most extensively illustrated dictionary of English furniture up to 1830. When originally published in 1927, it was a collaborative undertaking by Macquoid and Edwards, with assistance from other identified contributors, but this 1954 edition was essentially the work of Edwards alone.
