Full Description

8vo. xii + 195 + (1)pp, many text ills (some photo). Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. No ownership inscription but Gavin Stamp’s copy.

This offers a reset text of the second edition, 1797, of Dr William Moss’s The Liverpool Guide, the first guide book to the city, into which Brazendale has inserted additional passages of explanatory text in bold type, as well as engraved and woodcut illustrations of Liverpool buildings from earlier and later publications. All this is undeniably useful, but it is still a little difficult to work out what parts of the book are due to Moss and what to Brazendale.
