Full Description

Large folio. 69 + (1)pp, 25 photo plates. Publisher’s cloth, in dustwrapper. Jill Allibone’s copy, with her bookplate.

The first volume of a larger projected catalogue of the collection of classical sculpture assembled by the Roman Catholic Lancashire landowner Henry Blundell between 1777 and his death in 1810. Although the scope of this part is limited to Blundell’s holdings of female portrait busts, it also provides a useful history of the collection and an indispensable concordance between the original catalogues of the collection published for Blundell and subsequent publications of it by Michaelis and by Ashmole, which also records the sculptures’ present location.
