Full Description
8vo. 340pp, photo frontispiece, 7 photo plates, 2 folding maps. Publisher’s cloth.
The definitive edition of the surviving manuscript of Beckford’s diary of his travels in Portugal and Spain in 1787-8, much later to be used by him as the foundation for the Spain and Portugal volume of the 1834 publication of his European travels. A particularly helpful feature is the information that Boyd Alexander provides about Beckford’s closest Portuguese friend, Diogo, Marquis of Marialva, and Marialva’s villa and family connections.
