A dramatised history of human civilisation, written in the form of a pageant, and part of Geddes’s vision for ‘Dramatic Education’. A year earlier, Geddes had directed a ‘Masque of Learning’ performed in the Synod Hall, Edinburgh, and with some colleagues he went on to form ‘The Edinburgh Masquers’, who published this volume at their headquarters, Geddes’s Edinburgh folly, the Outlook Tower. The text, along with ‘The masque of medieval and modern learning’ published simultaneously, is a much expanded version of the original masque, with a number of analogies with recent events.
