Full Description

8vo. x + (2) + 249 + (1)pp, photo frontispiece, 31 plates (some photo), 19 plans in text. Publisher’s cloth, slightly chipped at edge. Author’s signature pasted to title leaf, presentation inscription in Latin dated 1957 on front free endpaper.

An amplified version of the author’s Rhind Lectures in Archaeology, delivered by him in 1925-6 and particularly valued for their discussion of the internal planning of Scottish castles and palaces of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The book was sufficiently scarce by 1972 to be reprinted by the Blom firm in New York (a surprising venture by Ben Blom into the literature of mediaeval architecture), but this original edition remains well worth having.
