8vo. x + 228pp, 200 woodcut text ills. Publisher’s cloth, slightly splitting at joints of spine (but otherwise in good condition). Ink ownership inscription of Kate Bathurst, 1843.

Fifth edition of Bloxam’s successful introductory guide to the styles of English mediaeval architecture, first published in 1829 and subsequently enlarged and improved. This edition, neatly printed by Thomas Combe at the Oxford University Press, with woodcut illustrations by Orlando Jewitt, is both an attractive example of contemporary book production and the last edition to retain the book’s original question and answer format.
