A history of the city by one of the overseers of the construction of the Agra-Delhi railway, who spent his spare time in the city researching its past and recording the sights, with the resulting photographs reproduced here. The account of Delhi’s recent past inevitably contains a substantial chapter on the mutiny and siege of 1857, but the majority of the text focuses on the city’s antiquities. Second, enlarged edition.
