First and only edition of this handsomely produced volume which prints the texts of three lectures delivered by Mendelsohn at the University of California, Berkeley, in April 1942. As a foreword by Prof.William C.Hays records, they were greeted with enthusiasm by his audience, and the friendly welcome which Mendelsohn received was one of the factors which led him to take up a teaching appointment at Berkeley and to settle permanently in California in the post-war period.
