First published catalogue of the paintings on display in the new royal art gallery in Munich, designed by the architect Leo von Klenze and opened to the public in October 1826. The catalogue had been compiled by the director of the gallery, Johann Georg von Dillis, who contributes a lengthy introduction, and it lists 673 paintings by all the major European artists from the Renaissance onwards. The artists and subjects of all the paintings are recorded, and measurements are given in each case.
