Verzeichniss der Gemälde in der königlichen Pinakothek zu München.
8vo. xxx + (2) + 346pp, 1 folding engraved plate (carrying an image of the Pinakothek’s front elevation and an accompanying floor plan). Original printed pink paper boards. A few pencil reading marks against the catalogue entries for Old Master paintings by artists of the Dutch school. A good copy.
First published catalogue of the paintings on display in the new royal art gallery in Munich, designed by the architect Leo von Klenze and opened to the public in October 1826. The catalogue had been compiled by the director of the gallery, Johann Georg von Dillis, who contributes a lengthy introduction, and it lists 673 paintings by all the major European artists from the Renaissance onwards. The artists and subjects of all the paintings are recorded, and measurements are given in each case.
