A French-language translation of Gally Knight’s An Architectural Tour in Normandy, published in London in 1836. In a preliminary note Arcisse de Caumont, the distinguished French architectural historian who was himself a formidable authority on the historic buildings of Normandy, pays tribute to Gally Knight as a “savant du premier ordre” and indicates that he and Alfred Campion, the actual translator of Gally Knight’s text, had taken pains to ensure that the translation should be a faithful one. The translated text had initially appeared as an article in the periodical Bulletin Monumental, but the present publication is the only edition of this text in book form and appears to be decidedly uncommon. Not in BAL Cat.
