Hare, Augustus J.C.
Westminster. Ninth thousand.
London, George Allen & Company Ltd 1913.
Small 8vo. 120pp, woodcut text ills. Publisher’s printed wrappers.
A successful enough guide book in its time, but not one of Hare’s better efforts : he seems to have had no real grasp of the abbey’s architectural history, and his listing of the tombs is distinguished from those in similar guide books only by the use of different historical and literary quotations. The last twenty pages of the guide book are devoted to the Palace of Westminster, Houses of Parliament, etc.
