8vo. (8) (including preliminary blank leaf) + 141 + (1)pp, including (12) full-page illustrations from sketches by Denis Tegetmeier. Publisher’s cloth, spine browned. Ownership inscriptions of George Goyder, 1937, and Simon Rendall, 1960. Subsequently Gavin Stamp’s copy, with his booklabel.

Collected printing of eight lectures and essays by the sculptor Eric Gill. All are written in a kind of stream-of-consciousness prose, but they reflect Gill’s attitudes on art in relation to industry and on art education. The illustrations are by Gill’s son-in-law, an artist, engraver and cartoonist.
